Fatigue is a common and disabling symptom in patients who have breast cancer and in breast cancer survivors. A rather nebulous concept, fatigue overlaps with sleepiness and depressed mood. This article addresses methods for assessing fatigue; describes the occurrence of fatigue before, during, and after initial treatment; presents possible underlying mechanisms of fatigue; and enumerates approaches to its treatment.
