A facile, convenient, efficient and high yielding synthesis of a combinatorial library of coumarins has been developed by the condensation of readily available beta-oxodithioesters and S,S-acetal with 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde in the presence of catalytic amount of CuCl2 under solvent free conditions.
