A sensitive, simple, rapid, and economical procedure for the determination of lead(II) in environmental water was developed and evaluated using anodic stripping voltammetry on a hanging drop mercury electrode. The interferences due to the organic matrix of environmental samples were minimized. The lead signal was unaffected by up to 20mg/L of fulvic acids, anionic and cationic surfactants, 15mg/L of nonionic surfactants, and 5mg/L of humic acids. The accuracy of the method was investigated by analyzing a certified reference material (SPS-WW1 Waste Water) and natural water.
