Investigations on Titanium-Doped Indium Oxide Based Optically Transparent Terahertz U-Shaped Patch Antenna

Titanium-doped indium oxide based optically transparent U-shaped patch antenna is designed and its radiation characteristics are investigated in the 725-775 GHz band. The entire antenna structure is transparent in the visible spectrum region. Transparent polyimide is used as a dielectric substrate for the proposed antenna design. Polyimide has low dielectric loss as a result of which the radiation performance of the antenna is ameliorated. Electrical conductivity of titanium-doped indium oxide and optical transmittance through it depends on the thickness of its thin film. It is one of the widely preferred transparent oxide conductors in optoelectronics. Optically transparent antennas find applications in many fields like military, solar cell antennas, satellites, radar systems, etc. The proposed antenna has achieved -10 dB impedance bandwidth of 6.67%. The radiation performance parameters for the antenna such as its radiation efficiency, directivity and gain are analyzed in the band of operation. The proposed structure is simulated using finite element method based electromagnetic solver-Ansoft HFSS.
