The present study examines lignin-based surfactant loss due to adsorption on Naharkotiya porous media (NH2), which is one of the major concerns in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) processes. The main constituent of the surfactant is Na-lignosulfonate [C(10)H(14)N(2)Na(2)O(8)2H(2)O], which weakens the effectiveness of the injected slug in reducing oil-water interfacial tension (IFT) and makes the process uneconomical. The study systematically investigates the adsorption of Na-lignosulfonate, the main component present in Black Liquor (BL), on porous media of Naharkotiya reservoir rock samples. The data were interpreted from well-known models and the Langmuir model was found to give the better fit of brine and pH data over the entire range of variables. Adsorption increases with an increase in NaCl, and decreases with an increase in pH.
