The results of physical performance tests of children aged 3-7 years dating from 1973 (N = 375), 1973/1974 (N 123), 1977 (N = 644), and 1999/2001 (N = 1,532) were compared. Motor skills measured were the standing long jump and two items from Kiphard and Schilling's Body Coordination Test: balancing backward and the lateral jump. No decrease in motor performance was found during the period examined. Differences between the samples could be attributed to specific features rather than to time of survey of the samples. Similarly, the expectation of a difference in the change of motor function between boys and girls could not be confirmed.
