Environmental Governance in Colombia: The Actions of the State and of the Social Movements

The object of this article is to show how different players and social movements use environmental governance elements to make their voice heard regarding the actions of the state and its public policies in Colombia. A qualitative methodology is used, while desk research was used as an information analysis technique. Among the findings we highlight that social players use consensus building and negotiation tools to show that there is an interest in strengthening the governance in the country. It is essential that the State offers the mechanisms to strengthen institutionality, as well as to involve civil society in the process of decision-taking regarding the habitat and natural resources they inhabit with in their districts.
