A novel ratiometric fluorescent probe with high selectivity and sensitivity was designed and developed for bioimaging and biosensing of HBrO in mitochondria. Using this useful tool with low cytotoxicity and good biocompatibility, it was found that O-2(center dot-)-induced oxidative stress triggered the burst of HBrO in mitochondria.
