Biocatalytic Reduction Reactions from a Chemist's Perspective

Frank Hollmann et al.

Summary: This review highlights the synthetic state-of-the-art and potential of enzymes catalyzing reductions, ranging from carbonyl, enone, and aromatic reductions to reductive aminations. Enzymes play a key role in producing chiral products with new functionalities, leading to alternative synthetic routes for high-added-value compounds and bulk chemicals.

Mutations in fbiD (Rv2983) as a Novel Determinant of Resistance to Pretomanid and Delamanid in Mycobacterium tuberculosis

Dalin Rifat et al.

Summary: Pretomanid-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis mutants were selected in mouse models, with mutations mainly occurring in genes associated with nitroimidazole activation and resistance. Some mutants displayed hypersusceptibility to certain antibiotics and dyes found in culture media, indicating potential cross-resistance.

Discovery and biosynthesis of guanipiperazine from a NRPS-like pathway

Jing Shi et al.

Summary: NRPSs are modular enzymes that assemble the peptide backbones of structurally diverse and biologically active natural products in bacteria and fungi using a thiotemplate mechanism. NRPSs-like enzymes activate l-tyrosine molecules to form novel alkaloids such as piperazine, which can be further modified by P450 enzymes into highly strained compounds.
