Self-organized criticality in multi-pulse gamma-ray bursts

Fen Lyu et al.

Summary: By statistically studying the properties of GRBs with multiple pulses, the research finds that the distributions are roughly consistent with the physical framework of a Fractal-Diffusive, Self-Organized Criticality (FD-SOC) system with a spatial dimension of 3 and classical diffusion. This supports the idea that the jets responsible for GRBs are magnetically dominated, with magnetic instabilities leading the emission region into a state of self-organized criticality.
