The 2021 Magnonics Roadmap

Anjan Barman et al.

Summary: Magnonics is a burgeoning research field that focuses on utilizing spin waves to transmit, store, and process information, showing significant progress in the past decade. The key challenges include excitation of sub-100 nm wavelength magnons, manipulation on the nanoscale, and creation of sub-micrometre devices using low-Gilbert damping magnetic materials. Magnonics offers advantages such as lower energy consumption, easier integrability, compatibility with CMOS structure, reprogrammability, shorter wavelength, smaller device features, anisotropic properties, negative group velocity, non-reciprocity, and efficient tunability by various external stimuli.

Magnetic Field Effect on Topological Spin Excitations in CrI3

Lebing Chen et al.

Summary: Researchers conducted a study using inelastic neutron scattering to investigate spin waves and Dirac gaps in CrI3, suggesting that Kitaev interactions and electron correlation effects are unable to explain these phenomena, while next-nearest-neighbor Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions may be the microscopic origin of the Dirac gap.

Topological Weyl magnons and thermal Hall effect in layered honeycomb ferromagnets

Shuyi Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the topological properties and magnon Hall effect of a three-dimensional ferromagnet in the ABC stacking honeycomb lattice were investigated. It was found that the interlayer coupling strength can be easily tuned by applying pressure to the material, offering a potential route to tuning the magnon thermal Hall effect in experiments. The research also revealed the significant effects of the interlayer coupling on the magnon band structure and Chern numbers, providing insights into the potential manipulation of magnon properties for various applications.

Topological magnon insulator spin excitations in the two-dimensional ferromagnet CrBr3

Zhengwei Cai et al.

Summary: In this study, topological magnons in a two-dimensional ferromagnet CrBr3 were investigated using inelastic neutron scattering. By combining experimental measurements and theoretical calculations, the researchers demonstrated that CrBr3 is a topological magnon insulator, with the nontrivial gap attributed to the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction.
