Dynamical instability of collapsed dark matter halos

Wei-Xiang Feng et al.

Summary: Research shows that a self-interacting dark matter halo can collapse into a black hole. In this study, a truncated Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution is used to model the dark matter distribution, and the dynamical instability of the core is examined based on considerations of total energy, binding energy, fractional binding energy, and adiabatic index. The results indicate that a black hole can form when the fractional binding energy of the core reaches 0.035.

GW170817 and GW190425 as hybrid stars of dark and nuclear matter

Kilar Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes three scenarios for compact hybrid stars that could provide explanations for LIGO/Virgo events GW170817 and GW190425. By utilizing different equations of state, the study reveals that these hybrid stars may have thick dark matter shells, allowing them to be more massive than typical neutron stars while being electromagnetically detected with similar sizes.

Measuring the dark matter environments of black hole binaries with gravitational waves

Adam Coogan et al.

Summary: In this paper, the authors investigate the impact of dark matter overdensities around black holes on the dynamical evolution of binary systems. They introduce a new analytical model to compute gravitational waveforms in the presence of evolving dark matter distributions and analyze when dressed black hole binaries can be distinguished from standard ones. The study also determines the detectability and characterization of these dressed black hole binaries by the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA), demonstrating the potential for generalizing the approach to assess other environmental effects in gravitational wave physics.

Seeding Supermassive Black Holes with Self-interacting Dark Matter: A Unified Scenario with Baryons

Wei-Xiang Feng et al.

Summary: Observations indicate the existence of supermassive black holes with a mass of around 10(9) M (circle dot) when the universe is only 6% of its current age. A proposed scenario explains the formation of these black holes through the collapse of a central region in a self-interacting dark matter halo. Baryons in protogalaxies are suggested to accelerate the evolution of the halo and shorten collapse timescales.

Accretion onto black holes inside neutron stars with piecewise-polytropic equations of state: Analytic and numerical treatments

Sophia C. Schnauck et al.

Summary: The study focuses on accretion onto a small black hole at the center of a neutron star, governed by a cold nuclear equation of state. Analytical expressions for the matter profiles and accretion rates are obtained and compared with simulations, showing good agreement. The accretion rate primarily depends on the black hole mass with minimal variation due to properties of the neutron star.

Density spikes near black holes in self-interacting dark matter halos and indirect detection constraints

Gerardo Alvarez et al.

Summary: The study suggests that self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) may lead to shallower density spikes, resulting in relaxed constraints on indirect detection of dark matter annihilation. By examining satellite galaxies like Draco in the Milky Way, upper limits on the annihilation cross section and black hole mass for both SIDM and CUM halos are derived. Constraints on dark matter annihilation are significantly weakened in SIDM, especially in the presence of supermassive black holes in galaxies like the Milky Way and M87.

Accretion onto a small black hole at the center of a neutron star

Chloe B. Richards et al.

Summary: In this study, the authors revisit a system involving a neutron star and a possibly primordial black hole at its center, analyzing the rates of accretion of neutron star matter onto the black hole through both analytical treatments and numerical simulations in full general relativity. By comparing analytic and numerical results, they provide expressions for the lifetime of neutron stars hosting such endoparasitic black holes.

Summary: This study investigates the survival time of neutron stars hosting an endoparasitic, possibly primordial black hole, and finds that this survival time only depends on the initial black-hole mass, with a nearly universal value for polytropic EOSs with Gamma >= 5/3.
