Storm-flood-dominated delta: A new type of delta in stormy oceans

Wen Lin et al.

Summary: Storms are increasingly recognized as a key depositional process in deltas, distinct from fair-weather wave processes. A new classification scheme, the "storm-flood-dominated delta," is proposed to fully represent deltas dominated by storm-flood processes, with key identification criteria including distinctive sedimentary characteristics and facies. This new classification model emphasizes storm processes as a separate entity, providing insights into depositional processes in marine environments.

Prediction of Reservoir Parameters of Cambrian Sandstones Using Petrophysical Modelling-Geothermal Potential Study of Polish Mainland Part of the Baltic Basin

Kacper Domagala et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the properties of quartz sandstones to determine porosity distribution and high temperature conditions within the reservoir formation, validating models based on geological data. The rock formations near the Slupsk IG-1 well exhibit low porosity, high temperatures, suggesting the suitability of enhanced geothermal or hot dry rock systems for utilizing geothermal energy.

Paleoclimatic and Redox Condition Changes during Early-Middle Jurassic in the Yili Basin, Northwest China

Hui Chao et al.

Summary: The study focused on investigating the warm and humid paleoclimate dominated in the Yili Basin during the early-Early Jurassic and Middle Jurassic, which led to high productivity of peat-forming paleo-vegetation. In contrast, the late-Early Jurassic interval between these formations was marked by relatively arid conditions, interrupted peat formation, and preservation under hypoxic sedimentary conditions.

Deltas: a new classification expanding Bates's concepts

Carlos Zavala et al.

Summary: The paper argues that deltaic sedimentation is more complex than traditionally thought, with deltas potentially categorized into hypopycnal, homopycnal, and hyperpycnal types based on the interplay between flow density and basin salinity. The types of deltas vary depending on whether the incoming flow is lower, similar, or higher in density than the receiving water body, influencing the characteristics of deltaic deposits.
