A Unique Structure of Highly Stable Interphase and Self-Consistent Stress Distribution Radial-Gradient Porous for Silicon Anode

Zhiwei Yang et al.

Summary: Stress failure and continued growth of the solid electrolyte interface are the main factors contributing to the failure of lithium-ion batteries with silicon (Si) anode. A core-shell gradient porous structure with a high-strength core and a high-porosity shell is proposed to address these issues, improving the stability and cycling performance of Si-based anode materials.

Electrospinning fabrication of flexible, foldable, and twistable Sb2S3/TiO2/C nanofiber anode for lithium ion batteries

Jing Xia et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method using titanium (IV) isopropoxide as a coupling agent to enhance the thermotolerant and mechanical properties of nanofibers, leading to the preparation of a porous Sb2S3/TiO2/C nanofiber membrane with good flexibility. Without the need for slurry coating processes, the porous Sb2S3/TiO2/C nanofiber membranes can be cut into electrodes and directly assembled into lithium-ion half-cells or full-cells.

1000 Wh L-1 lithium-ion batteries enabled by crosslink-shrunk tough carbon encapsulated silicon microparticle anodes

Fanqi Chen et al.

Summary: This study presents a method to enhance the electrochemical performance of microparticulate silicon by designing a strong and ductile carbon cage using capillary shrinkage of graphene hydrogel. The stable structure, similar to plant cells, shows 'imperfection-tolerance' to irregular volume variation of Si microparticles, maintaining electrode integrity over 1000 cycles with high Coulombic efficiency. The dense and thick microparticulate Si anode achieved an ultra-high volumetric energy density of 1048 Wh L-1 at pouch full-cell level.

Interfacial passivation by room-temperature liquid metal enabling stable 5 V-class lithium-metal batteries in commercial carbonate-based electrolyte

Chuanliang Wei et al.

Summary: Passivating the surface of lithium metal anodes with a liquid metal improves their stability by forming a lithium-based alloy framework. This framework alleviates corrosion, uneven lithium deposition, and unstable interfaces, leading to superior electrochemical performance when paired with high-voltage cathodes. This passivation strategy also holds potential for highly reactive sodium and potassium metal anodes.
