PET Fiber-Reinforced Engineered Geopolymer and Cementitious Composites

Sadaqat Ullah Khan et al.

Summary: In this study, PET fibers obtained from plastic bottles were used in engineered cementitious and geopolymer composites (ECC and EGC). The behavior of PET fiber-reinforced ECC and EGC showed better mechanical properties compared to other combinations, and they were found to be competitive in terms of strength and multiple cracking response.

Effects of fiber hybridization on mechanical properties and autogenous healing of alkali-activated slag-based composites

Jeong-Il Choi et al.

Summary: The study found that AAS composites using hybrid PEPVA fibers had higher tensile strain capacity and superior healing performance compared to composites using only PE fibers at the same total fiber volume fraction. Even at a small volume fraction, the presence of PVA fibers influenced the nature of the healing products.

Summary: This study prepared high-ductility EGCs by incorporating PVA fiber and modified MWCNTs, and evaluated the mechanical properties through various tests. The results indicated that EGCs with these additives exhibited excellent mechanical performance, and a new modification mechanism was revealed.

Tailoring rheological-strength-ductility properties of self-cleaning geopolymer composites with asphalt emulsion

Yafeng Pang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of adding PE fibers and AE on the rheological-strength-ductility properties of self-cleaning geopolymer composites as well as the geopolymerization reaction mechanisms. PE fibers dramatically improve ductility, while the strength first increases and then decreases with increasing AE content. The study proposes a microscopic model illustrating the tailoring mechanism of self-cleaning geopolymer composites through AE addition, showing a prospective application in road engineering.

Mechanical properties of high ductile alkali-activated fiber reinforced composites with different curing ages

Lili Kan et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the preparation of high ductile alkali-activated fiber reinforced composite and experimental investigation of their mechanical properties at different curing ages. The results show an initial increase and subsequent stabilization of compressive and tensile strength with increasing ages, while the tensile strain capacities remain at a higher level. Additionally, parameters at the meso-scale can be well correlated with the tensile properties of the materials at different ages.

Influence of steel slag on the properties of alkali-activated fly ash and blast-furnace slag based fiber reinforced composites

Yujing Zhao et al.

Summary: This research focused on studying alkali-activated fiber reinforced composites with steel slag as a precursor material. The optimal mix was found to be with 15% SS replacement, showing improved tensile strength, strain capacity, and compressive strength. Replacement ratios higher than 15% led to a deterioration of mechanical properties. The meso-scale studies helped explain the high ductility mechanisms of the mixes.

Properties of modified engineered geopolymer composites incorporating multi-walled carbon Nanotubes(MWCNTs) and granulated blast furnace Slag(GBFS)

Faping Li et al.

Summary: Engineered cementitious composites (ECC) are widely used for their high tensile capacity and strain-hardening behavior, while fly ash-based geopolymer is considered a promising eco-friendly alternative. This study developed an ultra-high-ductility engineered geopolymer composite (UHEGC) with excellent multiple cracking properties and strain hardening. Various tests, including FT-IR and XRD, were used to investigate the characteristics of reaction products in the geopolymer matrix.

Coordination environment of Si in calcium silicate hydrates, silicate minerals, and blast furnace slags: A XANES database

Jiaqi Li et al.

Summary: Understanding the silicate polymerization of calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) gel and its crystalline polymorphs is crucial in cement science. X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy is a fast and efficient tool for probing Si coordination with potential spatial information, but there is still a lack of understanding of Si K-edge XANES spectra of cement-related silicate phases. Substituting Al for Si can shift the Si K-edge energy of tobermorite and slags to higher energies.
