Ornamental plants adapted to urban ecosystem pollution: lawn grasses and painted daisy tolerating copper

Evgeny Aleksandrovich Gladkov et al.

Summary: Lawns and flowers are important elements of the urban ecosystem, but pollution by heavy metals like copper can limit their spread. This study shows that plants can be adapted to urban conditions through breeding and cell selection, increasing their resistance to pollutants.

Color assessment of selected lawn grass mixtures

Karol Wolski et al.

Summary: The experiment showed that grass mixtures with high proportions of Festuca rubra L. in spring and Poa pratensis L. in summer and autumn had the best lawn colors. The sowing rate of 35 g/m(2) resulted in the best color in summer and autumn. The study also highlighted the significant impact of weather conditions on lawn color, emphasizing the importance of selecting the right grass species and varieties based on local conditions.

Modeling phytoremediation of aged soil Ni from anthropogenic deposition using Alyssum murale

Sharareh Dehghani et al.

Summary: This study investigated the feasibility of using Alyssum murale for phytoremediation of Ni-contaminated soils with different characteristics. It was found that the most efficient combination of treatments would take 246 years to reach the target Ni concentration, while an optimized plant-soil system could achieve the same reduction in 9 years, although challenges remain for field application.

Bioremoval of hazardous cobalt, nickel, chromium, copper and cadmium compounds from contaminated soil by Nicotiana tabacum plants and associated microbiome

O. A. Havryliuk et al.

Summary: Heavy metal contamination in soils can lead to decreased fertility and negative effects on ecosystems, but bioremediation using microorganisms and plants shows promise for cleaning up polluted areas. The study confirms the potential of genetic removal of toxic metals by microorganisms and plants, providing a basis for environmental biotechnologies to address heavy metal pollution.
