Multiple Self-Organized Phases and Spatial Solitons in Cold Atoms Mediated by Optical Feedback

Giuseppe Baio et al.

Summary: The study shows that the transverse self-structuring of cold atomic clouds can be achieved using effective atomic interactions mediated by a coherent driving beam reflected by a single mirror, resulting in a richer self-structuring behavior than that of an effective-Kerr medium. Different interaction strengths lead to hexagonal, stripe, and honeycomb phases, with the system recovering inversion symmetry in the stripe phase. Additionally, the subcritical character of the honeycomb phase allows for light-density feedback solitons to function as self-sustained dark atomic traps with motion controlled by phase gradients in the driving beam.

Collision of two self-trapped atomic matter wave packets in an optical ring cavity

Jieli Qin et al.

Summary: The collision of two self-trapped atomic matter wave packets in an optical ring cavity leads to various collision phenomena depending on the magnitude of colliding velocity. Different features are observed compared to the cavity-free case, with low velocity collisions resulting in oscillations, medium velocity collisions being highly phase sensitive, and high velocity collisions leading to packet fragmentation. Beyond a certain limit, the colliding wave packets exhibit behavior similar to classical particles before experiencing severe spatial spreading.

Self-Organization in Cold Atoms Mediated by Diffractive Coupling

Thorsten Ackemann et al.

Summary: This article discusses the self-organization in cold atoms through light-mediated interactions induced by feedback from a single retro-reflecting mirror. It explores the mechanism of formation of self-organized atomic lattices, the coupling strength parameters, and the requirements for critical interaction strength in different scenarios. It also discusses the operating modes on different degrees of freedom, possible research extensions, and connections to other related topics.

First order phase transition between two centro-symmetric superradiant crystals

Xiangliang Li et al.

Summary: A structural phase transition between two configurations of a superradiant crystal is observed by coupling a Bose-Einstein condensate to an optical cavity and applying imbalanced transverse pump fields. This transition involves a change in polarization and is accompanied by transient dynamics of the order parameter, in quantitative agreement with a microscopic Hamiltonian and experimental data.
