Magnetic interlayer coupling in multilayers of fractional dimensionality

Within analytical method we calculate the RKKY interaction between localized magnetic moments for a system of fractional (nonintegral) dimension. We provide the exact derivation of the spatial dependence of the RKKY exchange integral as an analytical function of dimensionality. Moreover, with the help of fractional analysis, we derive formulae for interlayer coupling in fractional multilayers. On the basis of the results obtained possibility of controlled interlayer interaction is shown. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
