Chemokines in inflammation and immunity

Since the discover of interleukin 8 (IL-8), about 50 chemokines have been characterized. Originally, they were considered as inducible mediators of inflammation, but in recent years, several chemokines have been identified that are expressed constitutively and function in the physiological traffic and homing of leukocytes.
