Interleukin 12 (IL-12) is central to the orchestration of cell-mediated immune responses in the innate as well as the adaptive immune system. Recent studies of the pathogenesis of diseases as disparate as measles and asthma have suggested that the complement system, itself at the interface of innate and adaptive immunity, is a biologically relevant regulator of IL-12 production. These data are reviewed here. (C) 2001 Editions scientifiques et medicales Elsevier SAS.
