The potential effects on the health of future generations of humans, and other mammals arising from the increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, resulting from the use of large amounts of fossil fuels by industrialized societies, is considered. It is concluded that the change in the gaseous composition of the atmosphere will lead to a decline in the health of humans and may well lead to serious population reductions.
