Alpha particle emission spectra have been measured from a number of heavy ion induced nuclear reactions populating compound nuclei in the mass range A = 112-208. The data have been analyzed using the statistical model code PACE2 with an aim to determine the values of the inverse level density parameter (K). The K values thus determined have been compared with the calculations based on the static path approximation method taken from the literature. Also the diminishing of the shell effects in closed shell Pb nuclei has been discussed.
