Synthesis of novel polyurethanes from sugars and 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate

Synthesis of two new polyurethanes was accomplished by reaction of 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate with the sugars methyl 2,6-di-O-pivaloyl-alpha -D-glucopyranoside (1) and methyl 4,6-O-benzylidene-alpha -D-glucopyranoside (2) catalysed by 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane.
