CNLS-fit analysis of the electrode impedance of two different oxygen ion conducting electrolytes showed the presence of a small but significant 'inductive loop' at low frequencies and at zero bias. This phenomenon is explained by a 'crosstalk' between the working electrode and the reference electrode, it is assumed that mobile and possibly charged, adsorbed oxygen species mediate this crosstalk. Based on this, a simple model is derived which will lead, in first approximation, to an 'inductive loop' in the impedance diagram of the electrode response. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V.
