The behavior of black lemurs presented with novel and familiar food in the presence or absence of the dominant female was analyzed in order to examine the influence of the latter on feeding decisions at a group level. Results showed that individual learning occurred with high quality food, while the dominant female influenced the eating behavior of other group members when food was of low attractiveness or unfamiliar.
