The movement of a small particle near a wall, characterized by any dielectric function, was considered on the basis of relativistic and fluctuating electrodynamics. A friction coefficient, due to the dissipation of the energy of the relative motion originating from thermal fluctuating electromagnetic fields, was obtained as a power series of the inverse shortest distance between interacting bodies. Possible manifestations of image enhancement effects in damping, leading to giant Raman scattering, are discussed.
