A total of 21 different porphyrins, some of them closely related to the photosensitizer meta-tetra-hydroxyphenylchlorin (m-THPC) with a varied degree of hydrophilic/lipophilic substitution were synthesized employing conventional porphyrin condensation procedures and modem functionalization via organolithium. reagents.
