On the anisotropy of the Portevin-Le Chatelier plastic instabilities in Al-Li-Cu-Zr alloy

The anisotropy of the Portevin-Le Chatelier effect in the Al-Li-Cu-Zr alloy is reported. A new method for the quantification of the observed differences is proposed. The differences in intensity of serration are discussed in terms of the anisotropy of the microstructure of the material. (C) 2001 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
