Volatiles from the leaves and flowers of Carapa guianensis Aubl.

The leaves (sample A) and flowers (samples B and C) of Carapa gutanensis were submitted to hydrodistillation and their components were characterized by GC/MS, The sesquiterpenes prevail over the identified compounds. The major components found in the leaf oil were bicyclogermacrene (23.0%) and germacrene B (14.3%), while the flowered was dominated by germacrene D (13.2-21.0%) and alpha-humulene (13.4%-31.7%). Fatty acid compounds and their derivatives existing in the seed oil were also identified in the flower oil.
