Detecting trends using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient

Spearman's rank correlation coefficient is a useful tool for exploratory data analysis in environmental forensic investigations. In this application it is used to detect monotonic trends in chemical concentration with time or space. (C) 2001 AEHS.
