Fabrication of thin Ni3Al foils by cold rolling

Cold rolling of single-crystalline Ni3Al was performed to fabricate thin foils of 23 mum in thickness and 50 mm in width. The rolling texture and basic mechanical properties of the foils were examined. The rolling texture consisted of two components, (10 1)[(1) over bar2 1] and (10 1)[12 (1) over bar]. The foils exhibited high tensile fracture strength without plastic elongations. However, their bending ductility was quite remarkable. (C) 2002 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
