Compact travelling kinks and pulses, another way of high speed communications

We show that by suitably choosing the analytical form of a solitary wave solution of discrete phi(4) models, it is possible to calculate the potential parameters which allow the propagation of compact (kinks and pulses) solutions. Our numerical simulations show that narrow kinks and pulses with finite extent can propagate freely. Moreover, our numerical simulations reveal that the propagation of two successive pulses at a relative distance of 2 lattice spacings is executed freely, i.e., without interaction, which presents great interest in the data transmission field. Finally an experimental electronic device holding the propagation of such entities is proposed. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
