A study was undertaken, using fluorescein angiography to correlate the area of capillary nonperfusion (CNP) with the occurrence of retinal neovascularization in 20 cases of Eales disease. Neovascularization elsewhere and neovascularization of the disc were found in eyes with greater than 20 and 60 disc areas CNP, respectively. The role of livid peroxides in neovascularization was also studied biochemically. A significant increase in platelet malondialdehyde levels was observed in cases with neovascularization.
