The efficiency of nontoxic imidazole derivatives as copper corrosion inhibitors in sodium chloride solutions was studied by electrochemical polarization methods (Tafel extrapolation and polarization resistance method) and weight-loss measurements. Results obtained during this study show that inhibitors with higher molecular weight, especially those with a phenyl ring, have better inhibiting properties. The values of free energy of adsorption, as calculated from Freundlich isotherm, indicate that investigated imidazole derivatives physisorbe on the copper surface. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd.
