Two hepatoprotective phenolic compounds, kaempferol (2) and salidroside (4), were isolated from the roots of Rhodiola sachalinensis together with two inactive compounds cinnamyl alcohol (1) and dancosterol (3) based on the hepatoprotective activity against tacrine-induced cytotoxicity in human liver-derived Hep G2 cells. The EC50 values of compounds 2 and 4 were 33.5 and 51.3 muM, respectively. Silybin as a positive control showed an EC50 value of 68.4 muM. Copyright (C) 2003 John Wiley Sons, Ltd.
