Nanotubes of zinc sulfide (ZnS) have been synthesized conveniently by a simple route of solid-state reaction at room temperature and were characterized by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), x-ray powder diffractometry (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). XRD showed the product obtained to be crystalline sphalerite (cubic ZnS) and TEM clearly demonstrated the nanotubes of ZnS with average diameters of about 90 nm and lengths of up to 10 mum. Z
