A novel conserved family of nitric oxide synthase?

We describe a novel system for the production of nitric oxide (NO) that is conserved in all eukaryotes and many bacteria. The prediction of candidate functional sites as well as the link to GTPase-based signaling could build the basis for experimental characterization of this novel protein family.
