Chemokines and their receptors have emerged as attractive targets regulating the migration of tumor cells in vivo, a process known as cancer metastasis. The control of metastasis is critical to the control of cancer progression. Two chemokine receptors and their ligands stand out as likely targets for therapeutics: CCR7/CCL21 for lymph node metastases, and CXCR4/CXCL12 for lung, liver, bone marrow, and brain metastases. The most widely expressed chemokine receptor among cancers is likely to be CXCR4. (C) 2003 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
