The CNS polarized proton solid target for radioactive isotope beam experiments

A polarized proton solid target has been developed at the Center for Nuclear Study, the University of Tokyo. The polarized target makes use of a large population difference among Zeeman sub-levels in the photo-excited triplet state of pentacene. We have successfully applied this polarized target to the first RI beam experiment, where a vector analyzing power for the proton-He-6 elastic scattering has been measured. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V.
