This paper reports the singlet oxygen has been detected under irradiation of red light while water-soluble sodium salt of sulfonated phthalocyanines (MPc(SO3Na)(4)) and organo-soluble tetrakis(2,9,16,23-tert-butyl) dysprosium bisphthalocyanines (Dy(TBPc)(2)) are used as photosensitizers. Furthermore, the experimental results reveal that singlet oxygen can kill microorganism under photodynamic treatment. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
