Attitudes toward older adults with incontinence vary significantly between societies and cultures. Intangible consequences arising from such attitudes may exert enormous psychosocial strain on affected older adults, caregivers, family members, and social networks. Health providers should consider psychologic, genderbased, and sociocultural differences in formulating efficient screening and therapeutic strategies for older adults who have UI.
