The present work describes a simple one pot access to alpha-(gem-difunctional) acrylic esters and to polysubstituted dihydrothiophenes exploiting the addition of activated methylenes to alkynoates rerouted by triphenyl phosphine. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
