Risk of adverse events with fibrates

An increased risk for adverse events was observed with gemfibrozil relative to fenofibrate, predominantly driven by an increased rate of rhabdomyolysis. This difference was especially noticeable in patients taking the combination of gemfibrozil and a statin, particularly cerivastatin. (C) 2004 by Excerpta Medica, Inc.
