Action of essential oils from two aromatic plants from Ivory Coast on Callosobruchus maculatus F. of cowpea. The essential oils extracted by hydrodistillation of two aromatic plants from western Africa - Melaleuca quinquenervia (L) et Ocimum gratissimum (L) - have been tested by fumigation with various concentrations on adults of the not-'voiliere' shape of Callosobruchus maculatus Fab., at a temperature of 27.5 +/- 0.2 degreesC and at a relative humidity of 80.3 +/- 1.6%. These oils present an insecticidal activity and induce in the females of C. maculatus a very significant reduction of lying compared with that in the control. The essential oil of M. quinquenervia with CL50 = 3.09 mul l(-1) seems more effective than that of C. gratissimum. To cite this article: B.P Seri-Kouassi et al., C. R. Chimie 7 (2004).
