Li1+alphaV3O8 xerogels are diphasic hewettite-like hydrates Li(1+alpha)V(3)O(8)(.)nH(2)O with different water content, and different grain and crystallite size. Crystallized Li1+alphaV3O8 compounds obtained upon annealing above 250degreesC exhibit properties that arise from both parts, i.e., a bimodal grain size distribution and an intermediate lithium storage capacity.
