Low density quasi-two-dimensional dipolar hard spheres in an external field

Simulations of the low density structure of a quasi-2-dimensional system of dipolar hard spheres in a tilted external field are presented. A major finding is the occurrence, at a threshold value of the tilt angle, of a transition from a chain state to a state of regularly spaced columns whose width increases roughly linear with density.
