The crystal structure of bis[bis(1,10-phenanthroline)lead(II)] succinate-dinitrate, Pb-2(phen)(4)(mu-C4H4O4)(NO3)(2), space group P1, a 9.052(2) Angstrom, b 11.522(2) Angstrom, c 11.956(2) Angstrom, alpha 96.43(1)degrees, beta 109.58(1)degrees, gamma 100.82(1)degrees, shows various features typical of those which render the coordination chemistry of Pb(II) generally difficult to analyse in detail. Consideration of numerous close interatomic contacts in this compound leads to the conclusion that attractive ligand-ligand interactions may play an important role in determining the form of the primary coordination sphere of the metal.
