The present study, which was conducted in Jordan, examined chronically ill adults' educational needs concerning the self-administration of medications. The study utilized a cross-sectional design. Five hundred adults were recruited from primary health centers. Chronically ill adults needed education on medication benefits, odds ratio (OR)= 4.23, 95% confidence interval (95% CI) = (3.07-5.81), p =.00; side effects, OR = 2.25, 95% CI = (1.48-4.28), p =.00; and management of side effects, OR = 2.20, 95% CI = (1.35-4. 10), p =.00. Nurses, physicians, and pharmacists need to collaborate to ensure that patients receive adequate education on their prescribed medications. (C) 2008 Published by Elsevier Inc.
