Cd2+ ion transport is observed through two different membrane systems (supported liquid membrane (SLM) and polymeric plasticized membranes (PPM)) containing Lasalocid A as carrier and 2-nitrophenyl octyl ether (NPOE). In PPM, the cellulose triacetate (CTA) is the membrane core and the NPOE a plasticizer, while in SLM the latter compound acts as a carrier solvent in the porous polypropylene polymer matrix. A comparison between the transport fluxes at same Lasalocid A concentration in the membrane for both membrane systems is proposed. The divergence between the two systems depends on the carrier concentration. At high carrier content, the PPM system becomes more efficient than the SLM system. A long-term stability and good durability of the PPM membrane was observed. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
