Microstructure and high-temperature sliding wear property of COss/CO3MO2Si metal silicide alloys

Wear resistant Co-ss/Co3Mo2Si metal silicide alloys with a dual-phase microstructure consisting Of Co3Mo2Si primary dendrite and small amount of interdendritic ductile Co-base solid solution (Co-ss) were designed and fabricated by the laser melting/deposition process. Microstructure of the alloys was characterized by optical microscopy (OM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). High-temperature sliding wear properties of the Co-ss/Co3Mo2Si alloys were evaluated at 600 degrees C. Results indicate that the Co-ss-toughened C(o)3Mo(2)Si ternary metal silicide alloys have excellent wear resistance under high-temperature sliding wear test conditions. Co content has a remarkable influence on rnicrostructure, hardness and wear resistance of the Co-ss/Co3Mo2Si metal silicide alloys. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
